About DiscussChess
A fan's notes on the game. The players, the history, the openings, the great games.
DiscussChess is a fan site. Written by an enthusiast, around 600 ELO, who reads a lot about chess and writes about what's interesting. Not a coach, not an expert, not the place for advice you'd actually act on at the board.
More interested in why a move was played than whether the computer approved it. The game has too much history to ignore, so the writing tends toward players who changed how chess is understood, openings where the ideas matter more than the lines, and famous games that are still worth studying a century later.
What you'll find here
Player profiles, opening summaries, famous games, tournament history, and book and equipment recommendations. Good starting points: the Magnus Carlsen and Garry Kasparov profiles, the Sicilian Defense overview, and the Immortal Game.
